My Experiences

Here are some oils I reach for when I need comfort & support… After using the oils for awhile, I found I no longer have the need for over the counter remedies that often have ingredients that are harmful to our bodies. I just love how pampered I feel!

Those Winter Blues & Discomforts…

At first sneeze, I prefer to put a half drop of Melaleuca on my fingertip by covering the bottle with my pinkie finger and putting the bottle upside down. The amount on my finger is good for both sides of the inside of my nose.  This is kind of strong for many people, so try at your own risk. Some people prefer Melaleuca Touch for this as it is diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Tea to Boost Breathing Function

Add 2 drops of each oil to steaming cup of water: Oregano, Melaleuca, Lemon, Peppermint. Breathe the steam. See how it opens up breathing?

The Bomb:

I use this when ever I feel those seasonal issues knocking… Supports healthy immune function while protecting against environmental and seasonal threats. It’s cleansing and rejuvenating.

3 drops each: Melaleuca, Oregano, Protective Blend and Lemon in a capsule. I like to take these every 30 minutes for a 2 hour period, then I back off to 3 times daily.

Throat issues:

For powerful cleansing properties especially in the throat while supporting a healthy immune response and promoting healthy cellular growth, the honey eases the flavor! (this is extremely helpful when needing to sing in the early morning!)

1 tsp RAW honey – preferably local; 2 drops Frankincense; 2 drops Myrrh

Place all on a spoon and swallow. DO NOT follow with water. This quickly provides the comfort I need! Makes my throat feel strong and capable! It’s a little nasty in taste. For my “littles” I use 1 drop Protective Blend and 1 drop Lemon in place of the Frankincense and Myrrh.

Deodorant:

Before dōTERRA began making non-toxic deodorant, we did this. It’s great! We just scoop a tiny amount onto our fingers in the morning and rub on our pits. This recipe lasts for several months. It would not work for a stick deodorant as it becomes liquid in the warmer months. But you may only require using a few drops of your favorite essential oil mixed with water or Fractionated Coconut Oil.

My creation! Best deodorant ever!

My creation! Best deodorant ever!

If you prefer a spray deodorant, simply add your favorite essential oils to some Witch Hazel or pure water in a spray bottle. Be sure you use a glass spray bottle and shake well before each use.

All Natural Vapor Rub

There’s nothing like a cold night and the comforting aroma of Essential Oils! Commercial chest rubs contain things such as turpentine oil and petroleum which can contribute to health problems.  I’d rather make my own, leave out all the bad ingredients and add 100% pure essential oils!
¼ cup Organic Coconut Oil, melted
15-20 drops Breathe, The Respiratory Blend
20-30 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
20-30 drops Peppermint essential oil
10-15 drops Lemon essential oil

This recipe allows for variance in the amount of essential oils so you can make stronger or milder versions.  Mix all ingredients well and pour into glass jar.  Mixture will solidify as it cools.  It’s so comforting to rub on chest, throat and back for support when dealing with environmental threats. Rub on bottoms of feet and cover with socks or rub a little under nostrils.

Caution:  Only certified pure Eucalyptus is gentle and safe enough to use on children under age two.

Peaceful Child Blend

85 drops (1/3 bottle) Vetiver
30 Ylang Ylang
20 Frankincense
15-17 Clary Sage
10 Marjoram
35 fractionated coconut oil
Combine and store in a glass bottle, preferably a roller bottle. The oils in this blend are great for supporting focus and behavioral tension. Creates a deep, languid calm; frees the nerves from excessive tension allowing a person to spiritually center themselves. Nourishing and protecting to the brain and nervous system. Restores feelings of hope and mental strength and promotes a positive outlook on life. Eases the pain behind anger and quiets mind chatter.

Powder Laundry Soap

  • 2 bars of Fels Naptha soap – shredded (put it into a blender and it works well plus cleans the blender)
  • 2 cups Borax
  • 2 cups WASHING SODA (Not baking Soda)
  • 1/2 cup Oxyclean
  • Add a few drops of Essential Oils of your choice!!

Store in a sealed container. Use about 2 tbsp per load.

I used the dry detergent for about a year, then switched to this liquid detergent. I switched because it makes so much that I don’t have to make detergent as often. Plus it uses less ingredients. Shred and melt a bar of fels-naptha in a 4 cups of water. In a 5 gallon bucket filled half way with hot water, add 1-2 cups each of borax and washing soda then add the hot soap that you melted. Stir well then stir in enough hot water to fill the bucket and let sit for 24 hours to completely melt and mix. Mixture will gel up. Stir with a whisk or better yet, use an immersion blender to blend it thoroughly and add to jars like old spaghetti jars or your old detergent bottles. I shake the container well before I use it each time as it separates. Add ¼ cup to reg. sized loads. Add oils of your liking at wash time… just a few drops. On Guard or Purify for stinky loads, or Spearmint with Lavender or even Ylang Ylang! I put 2 cups each of Borax and Washing Soda because I’ve seen recipes with just one cup each and recipes with 2 cups each so I believe there’s room for personal choice. I use 2 cups each. I love knowing I’m doing my part for the environment by not using such toxic, fragrance driven detergents. Our skin no longer itches, and we have extra money in the budget!

Alternative to Ant Killer! Why destroy our ecosystem with pesticides?

spray bottle
This recipe is a great Ant deterrent!

2 cups of water
10 drops of each of the following oils:
Repellent Blend
Peppermint

Rosemary

Also deters spiders, earwigs and other creepy crawlers!

Diffusers

I have 2 types of diffusers. I have a water diffuser that sprays a fine mist into the air. A few drops of essential oils and you can enjoy the smell of the fabulous oil if you’re fairly near to the diffuser. This type of diffuser would be really nice in a dry climate. I live near the coast, so the humidity can be rather high sometimes. The diffuser I enjoy the most is the Aroma Ace. It is advisable to have the unit diffuse for a short amount of time and then have it off for a portion of time to allow your olfactory system to process the oils. I have a smaller home, so having the unit on medium low is perfect. This diffuser has an on timer, an off timer and a strength gauge. It’s truly a perfect diffuser. After having it on all day on high, I only used about 1/16th of a bottle!
